  • Many English language teachers and their students are not much confident and hesitate to speak English fluently and accurately. Technology can facilitate the process by providing practice. This EVO23 session provides the tools to practice and improve spoken English with fluency and accuracy. Participants of Technology for Spoken English (T4SE) will be introduced to various web and mobile technologies to help learners practice speaking skills

    Target audience:

    English language teachers to learners of all age groups

     

    Session objectives: 

    By the end of this session:

    1. Participants will have become familiar with various web and mobile technologies that facilitate spoken English.
    2. Participants will have practiced various technologies to enhance speaking skills. 
    3. Participants will have reflected on the various tools. 

     

    Syllabus:  

    Week 1: (January 9 - 15) 

    In week 1, participants will:

    1. get acquainted with each other, the moderators, and the platform Padlet, Voicethread, and Voki.  
    2. discuss language apps in the classroom.  
    3. sign up for free accounts on 

     

    Week 2: (January 16 - 22)

    In week  2, participants will: 

    • learn about and try out various language apps for listening and speaking practice.
    • discuss and reflect on the tools and how they apply to learning outcomes.

    Week 3: (January 23 - 29) 

    In week 3, participants will: learn about and try out various language apps for listening and speaking practice. discuss and reflect on the tools and how they apply to learning outcomes. Various Language Tools to Improve Language Speaking Skills:

    Week 4: (January 30 - February 5)

    In week 4, participants will create a story with characters and share their work using Toontastic on their iPads or iPhone or Tablets and android phones. They will also do an activity called Read Aloud. They will read a poem by Billy Collins called Introduction to Poetry and listen to a rap of the poem by Jason R. Levine. 

     

    Week 5: (February 6 - 12)

    In week 5, participants will showcase and reflect on 5 tools used in weeks 1-4.  They will use a curation wall/board of their choice for the reflections. They will also fill in a feedback survey.  Once they complete the tasks, they will be able to access the certificate of participation.
