Hello everyone 😊

At this stage, I am currently developing an online Moodle course titled Academic Writing and Speaking Skills. The course is mainly designed for first-year undergraduate students who want to strengthen their productive language skills and communicate more effectively in academic contexts πŸ“šβœ¨.

The course focuses on developing students’ writing and speaking abilities through guided practice, interactive communication tasks, presentations, discussions, and reflective learning activities. The overall goal is to help learners organize ideas clearly, express themselves confidently, and build stronger academic communication and critical thinking skills πŸŒπŸ’¬.

According to the current course plan, the module is expected to be divided into six main weekly topics:

β€’ Introduction to Academic Communication and Critical Thinking
β€’ Sentence Structure, Paragraph Writing, and Coherence
β€’ Essay Writing and Academic Vocabulary
β€’ Speaking Skills, Presentations, and Group Discussions
β€’ Revising, Editing, and Peer Feedback
β€’ Integrated Communication Tasks and Final Project

Each week is expected to include discussion forums, quizzes, writing tasks, presentations, peer feedback activities, reflective journals, and interactive Moodle activities to encourage learner participation and engagement πŸ’»πŸ§©.

To develop the course overview and syllabus, I experimented with several AI tools from the list provided for this activity. I used Claude for organizing weekly modules and generating learning outcomes, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot for brainstorming activities and assessments, Perplexity and SciSpace for checking concepts and academic content, and Canva Course for visual organization ideas. I also explored Coursebox and DeepSeek to compare how different AI systems structure online learning modules and interactive tasks πŸ€–πŸ“–.

The AI tool I preferred most overall was Claude because it helped generate clear module sequencing, practical activity suggestions, and organized learning outcomes in a very structured and user-friendly way βœ¨πŸ› οΈ.

At this stage, the course is still a working draft, but experimenting with these AI tools has already helped me think more carefully about learner engagement, reflective practice, communication outcomes, and online course design in Moodle 😊🌐.

I am looking forward to reading everyone’s course ideas and getting more inspiration before continuing to refine my own course modules and activities as well πŸŽ“βœ¨

Hi Janet,

It is wonderful to see the syllabus of your Academic Writing and Speaking Skills course. The six week structure you have developed provides a very logical progression for first year undergraduate students, especially the transition from foundational sentence structure into integrated projects.

Your use of multiple AI tools for different pedagogical purposes is impressive. Using Claude for sequencing and Gemini or Copilot for brainstorming activities is a great way to leverage the specific strengths of each model. The inclusion of reflective journals and peer feedback tasks will certainly help in building the critical thinking skills you mentioned as a core goal.

I look forward to seeing how these modules continue to evolve as you refine the interactive Moodle activities. Keep up the great work!

Hi Janet! 😊

It’s great to see another syllabus developed withΒ Claude. I also found it the most effective tool for organizing complex modules! I really like how your course balances writing with speakingβ€”the 'Integrated Communication Tasks' in Week 6 sounds like a fantastic way to wrap up the semester. Your focus on critical thinking is so important for first-year students. Looking forward to seeing how your Moodle activities develop! ✨

Warmly,

Jaweria
