Ai Providers on Moodle

In Week 6, participants will focus on AI providers and AI placements in Moodle from the perspective of a site administrator. Participants will learn how Moodle connects with AI services, where AI features can appear in a Moodle site, and how administrators can manage these settings responsibly. The goal is to help participants understand how AI can be added, configured, tested, and used in ways that support teachers, learners, course development, and site administration.

This week will introduce the role of AI providers in Moodle. AI providers are the services that connect Moodle with external AI tools. As Moodle administrators, participants need to know where these providers are configured, how they are enabled, and how they may affect the teaching and learning experience on a Moodle site. Participants will also explore AI placements, which are the areas in Moodle where AI tools may become available to users, such as text editors, course content areas, activities, or other parts of the learning environment.

Participants will work in their Moodle 5.2 sandbox sites to explore the AI settings and become familiar with the admin options. They will check where AI providers are added, how placements are managed, and what decisions an administrator needs to make before making AI tools available to teachers or students. Participants will also reflect on privacy, access, responsible use, and the importance of testing AI tools before using them in a live course.

By the end of Week 6, participants will have explored AI providers and placements in Moodle, gained more confidence navigating the AI-related admin settings, reflected on responsible AI use in a Moodle site, and learned from the examples shared by their peers.
