Hi Carlos,

It is wonderful to hear about your journey with Moodle since 2018 and how you have successfully transitioned those skills into your current LINC role on the AVENUE platform. Your proactive approach to using tools like Gemini and ChatGPT for lesson planning and content creation is an excellent example of how digital pedagogy can be used to streamline the development of specialized materials.

As of May 2026, the AVENUE platform used by LINC and ESL instructors operates on Moodle 4.5. The platform completed a major migration from Moodle 3.10 to Moodle 4.5 in mid-November 2025. This update was implemented to provide a more modern interface, improved system performance, and enhanced accessibility for both teachers and learners.

Key details regarding this version on AVENUE include a refreshed and more intuitive interface with streamlined navigation and updated icons. The functionality features enhanced tools for grading, activity management, and course editing. Compatibility with standard LINC tools like the Binder and PBLA-aligned eUnits remained consistent after the upgrade. Furthermore, the platform continues to receive updates and support for new educational tools compatible with the 4.5 LTS release.

By remaining on Moodle 4.5, the system misses out on the significant architectural shifts found in later releases. The transition to Moodle 5.0 and 5.1 brought about a fundamental change in how artificial intelligence is managed, moving beyond simple integration to offering granular controls that allow educators to define how AI is used at the activity level. These versions also modernized the look and feel by upgrading to Bootstrap 5, which improves mobile responsiveness for learners on various devices.

The most recent release, Moodle 5.2, introduces professional-grade tools like multi-marker grading workflows that allow several instructors to evaluate a single assignment simultaneously. Teacher experience is further refined with an intuitive question bank supporting direct drag-and-drop editing and real-time Q&A forums that remove the traditional 30-minute editing delay. Additionally, version 5.2 offers built-in support for more advanced models like Google Gemini and AWS Bedrock, allowing for deeper integration of AI-driven research and teaching tools directly into the ecosystem.

In week 2, you will have a course on Moodle 5.2 to work and experiment on.

I'm here to support you throughout the process.

Warm wishes,

Nellie
