Hi Seham,

Your focus on autonomous learning is exactly where meaningful language development happens, and it is encouraging to see how intentionally you are supporting your students in becoming more independent. In English language learning, autonomy is not simply a goal but a key factor in long term success. Research shows that learners who take responsibility for their learning through planning, monitoring, and reflection tend to achieve stronger outcomes and develop lifelong learning habits (Lin, 2024; Faza, 2025).

Recent research also highlights how technology and AI can strengthen this shift toward autonomy. Digital tools such as learning management systems, mobile apps, and AI chatbots create interactive and adaptive environments that support self regulated learning and increase motivation and language performance (Noori, 2025; Faza, 2025). At the same time, it is clear that tools alone are not enough. Learners need to actively engage in strategies such as goal setting, self monitoring, and reflection for autonomy to develop in meaningful ways (Faza, 2025).

What stands out in your approach is that you are already moving in the right direction. Encouraging students to depend on themselves does not mean leaving them on their own. It means guiding them to build the skills to manage their learning with confidence. Studies on EFL learners show that motivation plays a central role, especially when students engage in meaningful and personally relevant activities beyond the classroom (Khadawardi, 2025).

You are building something very powerful. By combining clear guidance with opportunities for choice, reflection, and independent use of tools, you are helping your students become not only better English learners but more capable and confident learners overall.
