• Hosting, Installation, Backups, and Site Maintenance

In Week 7, participants will explore the role of hosting in setting up and managing a Moodle site. They will be introduced to basic hosting concepts, including domain names, SSL, PHP versions, databases, storage, backups, and cron jobs. The focus is on helping participants understand that Moodle administration does not only happen inside the Moodle admin area. A reliable Moodle site also depends on the hosting environment where the site is installed and maintained.

Participants will watch videos on how Moodle can be installed easily using Softaculous on cPanel and Webuzo. They will learn what to look for in a hosting platform and why hosting choices matter for Moodle performance, security, updates, backups, and long-term site management. They will also reflect on the responsibilities of a Moodle administrator when working with a hosted Moodle site.

By the end of Week 7, participants will have a better understanding of Moodle hosting, installation, backups, and basic site maintenance. This week will help prepare them for Week 8, where they will showcase and reflect on what they have learned throughout the course.
