Context and Significance

In week 2 part 1, the focus is on clearly describing the context in which your research will take place. You should also include any relevant background details, such as the grade level, subject area, demographics, or particular challenges or strengths of your environment. This information helps establish the foundation of your study and gives others a clear understanding of the space in which you are working.

In addition to describing the context, it’s important to explain the significance of your study. This involves reflecting on why the issue you’ve identified matters not just to you, but to your students, your school, or the broader educational community. Consider how addressing this problem could lead to meaningful change, such as improved student learning, increased engagement, more inclusive practices, or better use of resources. Your significance statement should answer the question: Why is it important to investigate and address this gap now, in this setting, and with these participants? This reflection not only strengthens your research focus but also connects your work to a larger purpose.
