• This 4-week, hands-on, instructor-led and agentic AI-supported online course is ideal for educators, instructional designers, tutors, and administrators who want to integrate AI into their Moodle sites and create local and block plugins.

    Course: https://integrating-technology.org/course/view.php?id=23

Throughout the course, participants learn how to set up and integrate AI into their Moodle sites, create Moodle AI course assistants and other AI assistants using Gemini and ChatGPT, and develop their own Moodle local and block plugins.

Each participant receives access to a Moodle 5.2.2 sandbox with a server terminal, providing a safe, hands-on environment for working directly with Moodle. Participants use the terminal to work with their Moodle installation while developing, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and refining their own plugins.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to create practical AI-powered Moodle local and block plugins that they can use in their own teaching and learning environments, share for free, or prepare to market for a fee.

Week 1: Plan Your AI Assistant

This week you will meet the other participants, introduce yourself using an AI avatar, and define the purpose of your AI Assistant. You will explore examples of AI assistants, identify your target users, and plan the features your assistant will provide. By the end of the week, you will have a clear development plan for your project.

Week 2: Build Your AI Assistant

This week you will create the technical foundation of your AI Assistant. You will set up Google Cloud, deploy your backend, connect your Moodle block to ChatGPT or Gemini, and test your first conversations. By the end of the week, your assistant will be able to receive questions and generate responses from within Moodle.

Week 3: Develop a Course Reasoning Engine

This week you will transform your AI Assistant into a Course Reasoning Engine. Your assistant will begin understanding Moodle course content, learner goals, and course structure. It will provide contextual guidance, remember conversations, summarize resources, and direct learners to the most relevant activities instead of simply returning search results.

Week 4: Showcase Your AI Assistant

During the final week, you will demonstrate your completed AI Assistant, explain how it works, discuss the challenges you encountered, and reflect on what you learned throughout the course. You will also explore future enhancements and receive feedback from other participants.
